German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has assured Ukraine that it will receive a $50B loan secured by frozen Russian assets, and Kyiv’s support from its allies will not weaken. Scholz describes the loan as a “quite conscious promise of stability for Ukraine,” which will provide the necessary support in the near future.
“This also sends a message to the Russian president that he should not expect weakening support for Ukraine and that he will be able to ‘eat’ the entire country,” the chancellor said.
In her turn, the head of the Parliamentary Budget Committee, Roksolana Pidlasa, noted that the declaration of the G7 countries regarding support for Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction provides for the partial use of the announced $50B amount for military support, but this does not mean that the funds can be spent entirely on the country’s defense.
She specified that she could not answer this question regarding Ukraine’s use of this loan for military purposes, as European and American leaders are still discussing the details of the decision.
