Ukraine’s armed forces continue to resist efforts by Russian units to breakthrough in several areas. The main Russian thrust has come from the south, from the town of Izium, in an attempt to encircle Ukrainian troops defending parts of the Luhansk region. According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the Russian forces regrouped and replenished their supplies in order to increase the offensive, but their attempt to take new territory was repulsed. The Russian occupiers no longer are conducting an active offensive push in the Kharkiv direction. However, parts of the region continue to be shelled by Russian artillery, and there has been fighting further east, very close to the Russian border, where Ukrainian forces are trying to advance on Russian supply lines.
