As Die Welt reports, based on data from Brussels consulting company Bruegel, for the first time in almost two years EU countries imported more gas from Russia than from the US in a quarter. From April to June, the EU bought 12.7 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia and 12.3 billion from the US.
At the same time, compared to the first quarter of 2024, deliveries from Russia decreased slightly and deliveries from the US– decreased even more sharply. Against this background, it is worth noting that Turkey plans to help Russia to at least partially return to the European gas market. Under the guise of a “Turkish mixture” – mixed gas from various sources – it will supply about 7-8 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe.
Nominally, Russia will account for 40% of this mix, but the real share may be higher. As Politico points out, Russian oil companies are already selling petroleum products made from Russian oil to Europe via Turkey, India, Egypt, and the UAE. Now Gazprom is trying to launder its Russian gas exports.
