Russia attacked and damaged the Danube River port in Ukraine.

Russian forces struck the southern part of the Odesa region on Tuesday night with drones, said regional governor Oleh Kiper. According to the statement some port and industrial infrastructure objects caught fire, and a silo was damaged.

Russia attacked Izmail, one of Ukraine’s biggest river ports for grain transportation that is located on the Danube, on the border with Romania. Ukrainian prosecutors said a silo, grain hangars, fuel storage at a cargo terminal, and other storage and administrative buildings were damaged. The headquarters of the port authority was significantly damaged, they said.

Ukraine continues to explore alternative grain export routes. At the same time, Romania plans to expand one of the key grain transit routes from Ukraine, while Kyiv has also discussed using Croatian ports for shipments.

Wheat and corn prices jumped after Russian drones damaged a Ukrainian port facility on the Danube River, adding to a spate of attacks designed to thwart the country’s exports from ports on the Danube and the Black Sea.
