The Secretary General of the North Atlantic alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, believes that a Ukrainian loss in its war against Russia would also mean a defeat for NATO. “It is important for all of us that Ukraine wins this battle because if Putin wins, it will be not only a defeat for Ukraine but also a defeat for all of us. We all will be more vulnerable to further Russian aggression,” Stoltenberg said. The secretary general emphasized that NATO is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine, “but our support plays a key role”. Hence, the alliance needs to replenish its weapons stockpile in a timely manner. “I expect the ministers to meet tomorrow and the day after tomorrow to decide how to use NATO’s defense planning process to agree on more ambitious targets for the various restocking objectives,” he said.
