Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced an agreement has been reached on a meeting being held between the US and Russian leaders in the coming days. The meeting may take place in the UAE, with Qatar and Switzerland also being considered.
According to White House officials, the idea of a personal meeting with US President Donald Trump was proposed by the Russian president himself during talks with US special envoy Steve Witkoff on August 6, but no confirmation has been given from the US side. Trump confirmed the likelihood of a meeting with the Russian leader and instructed his team to organize a personal meeting with Putin as soon as possible, as well as a trilateral meeting with President Zelenskyy. Putin, in turn, said that he was not against a meeting with Zelenskyy, “but the conditions for it have not yet been created”.
The US president called the latest negotiations with Russia “very productive”, although he admitted that a breakthrough had not yet been achieved. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that Trump’s potential meeting with Zelenskyy and Putin depends on whether Ukraine and Russia can agree on terms to end the war.
