The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, did not congratulate Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on his birthday on October 7, instead taking part in the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit on October 9, where he signed a declaration condemning the Russian attack on Ukraine. In late August, Vucic admitted that he had not had any contact with Putin since the beginning of the invasion. In June, Serbia was among the countries that signed the final communiqué of the Ukrainian Peace Summit. In early September, Vucic announced that he would not participate in the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 22-24.
Serbia also supplied ammunition to Ukraine through Western intermediaries. Recently, the country concluded several important agreements, with France for the supply of Rafale fighters and with the US regarding strategic energy cooperation.
At the same time, Serbiagaz agreed with Gazprom on an additional 400 million cubic meters of gas supplies this winter. At the beginning of 2025, the country will consider extending its gas contract with the Russian Federation.
