Russia’s war against Ukraine will be exhausting and positional, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda believes. He admitted that Ukraine’s partners expect the counteroffensive mounted by the nation’s Defense Forces to change its character.
“Ultimately, they will wait until one of the countries reaches the point where it can no longer continue the war,” Nauseda said.
British military scientist Jack Watling says that Europe’s plan to support Ukraine with artillery shells has failed, so Ukraine faces several months of heavy fighting without critical resources while trying to rebuild combat power.
Against the backdrop of delays in aid to Ukraine, the administration of the US president is gradually changing its strategy for supporting Kyiv, switching attention from a complete victory over Russia to improving Ukraine’s position for probable “future negotiations.”
US and European officials are discussing the redeployment of Kyiv’s forces from the “failed counteroffensive” to a stronger defensive position in the east. The US wants Ukraine to start negotiations with strong positions. The EU is also guided by the acceleration of Ukraine’s path to NATO membership to “put Ukrainians in a better position for negotiations” with Russia.
