Ukraine used military aviation, air defense systems, and mobile units to counter the attack shooting down 38 cruise missiles launched from strategic bombers inside Russian territory and 22 Kalibr missiles launched from ships in the Black Sea, said the Ukraine Air Force. The attacks triggered emergency blackouts in the northern Sumy region and the Mykolayiv region in the south. The city of Odesa lost power and water. Also, the Russian missiles hit energy infrastructure sites in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine, said the mayor, Oleksandr Vilkul, warning of possible large-scale power cuts. The city of Zhytomyr also suffered a blackout on Monday. Emergency power cuts had to be implemented in some regions of Ukraine to keep the system balanced, said Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
