According to the EBRD, the total cost of the project will be €71M, of which €28M is a contribution from the Moldovan state company, Zaliznytsia Moldova, €23M is an EBRD loan, and another €20M is an EU grant. The agreement on the project between the EBRD and the EU has already been signed.
It is planned to first repair the section of railway in the north of Moldova from Velcinets to Ungen and then in the south from Chisinau to Cainar.
According to the forecast, after the repair the carrying capacity of railway sections and the railcar speed will increase. This will facilitate the access of Ukrainian goods to the Romanian ports in Constanta and Galati, the Ukrainian port in Reni, and the Moldovan port in Giurgiulesti.
