Imports of metal products to Ukraine increased by 6.4% last year, to 1.26 million tons. More than 50% of products supplied to the Ukrainian market are produced by Turkey. This stems from the fact that tariffs for state monopoly services in Ukraine are growing significantly, and Ukraine cannot compete with imported products even in its own market.
Thus, imports of flat rolled products increased by 8.3%, and long products by 2.9%. At the same time, imports of pipes increased by 4.3%, to 100,630 tons. The key suppliers of metal products to Ukraine are Turkey, China, Poland, and Austria. There is a gradual strengthening of Turkish manufacturers’ position in the Ukrainian rolled product and pipe markets.
These trends are driven by both economic factors, including competitive prices and trade agreements, and geopolitical changes affecting logistics chains and the supply of metal products. The increase in imports reflects the negative results of the war: destroyed capacities and supply chains, personnel shortages, and more expensive logistics that have led to a loss of production margins and competitiveness compared to Turkish, Chinese, and other manufacturers.
