At a joint press conference with EU High Representative Josep Borrell, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said that during a meeting of the heads of foreign affairs of the EU countries in Kyiv, “consensus can be felt” regarding Ukraine’s membership in the EU, and it is only a matter of time. He emphasized that Ukraine’s key signal is Kyiv’s implementation of seven recommendations that the European Commission announced for the opening of membership negotiations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at the meeting, called on the seven EU countries that have not yet joined the Declaration on Security Guarantees for the Country to do so.
At the same time, according to Borrell, Ukraine’s accession to the EU can provide Kyiv with substantial security guarantees.
However, Poland and Hungary will be represented at the summit by deputy state secretaries of foreign affairs. Latvia and Sweden, rather than heads of departments, will send the state Ministry of Foreign Affairs secretaries.
