The total reached almost 4.5 million MWh. In contrast, according to Energy Map, electricity exports fell to a record low of only 350,000 MWh. The main reason for this imbalance was Russia’s massive attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Ukraine imported most of its electricity from Hungary (38.4% of the total), Slovakia (23.4%), Romania (18.5%), Poland (14.3%) and Moldova (5.4%).
Electricity exports fell by 90% compared to the pre-war year 2021 and amounted to only 348,500 MWh. The main export destinations were Poland (25.4% of the volume), Hungary (22%), Romania (20.4%), Moldova (16.3%) and Slovakia (15.9%). During the year, electricity was exported only 151 days, while imports were almost constant.
The Ministry of Energy reported that this year Ukraine plans to commission 900 MW of new distributed generation capacities, mainly gas-fired. This will continue the sector’s active development, which began in 2024 when 835 MW were commissioned.
