In 2023, Ukrainian banks issued 6,114 mortgage loans for a total of ₴9.1B. According to a National Bank survey, the volume of consumer mortgage loans increased almost fivefold in 2023 compared to the previous year, and the number of transactions tripled.
In December, eight banks that provided credit for the purchase of housing reported information about the issuance of new mortgages. As before, most deals were concluded on the secondary real estate market. The weighted average effective rate on mortgage loans in December remained at the November rate – 7.6%, while a year ago, in December 2022, it was 8.3%.
Regionally, the most significant number of mortgage loans in 2023 were issued in Kyiv and the Kyiv region – 2,664 contracts for ₴4.5B (50% of the total volume), and the Lviv (314 contracts for ₴518M), Rivne (344 for ₴461M) and Vinnytsia (304 for ₴455M) regions.
The prime mover in the mortgage segment remains the government preferential lending program, eOselya, the NBU reports.
