Japan will help Ukraine restore and modernize irrigation systems in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions, announced the government of Ukraine after a meeting between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
It is noted that the Japanese proposed several main directions for restoring and modernizing the irrigation system in Ukraine. In particular, these concern modernization and efficiency improvements for functioning irrigation systems, restoration of non-functioning irrigation systems for which there is consumer demand, and provision of technical and financial support to water use organizations.
The first project will take place in the Odesa region, focusing on the modernization and restoration of rice irrigation systems.
