Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has called on the US not to hesitate in assisting Ukraine in an amount that will allow it to win and ensure lasting peace because it is in the interests of the United States itself, reported FP. Rasmussen notes that the Russian Federation’s attack on Ukraine has made defense issues relevant for the European governments and pushed Finland and Sweden to join NATO. “The war demonstrated that Washington remains Europe’s main guarantor of security. It also proved the need for the democratic world to unite in the face of the threat from autocratic states that are behaving increasingly aggressively,” the former secretary general writes.
