Is Ukraine ready for winter without the transit of Russian gas?

Ukraine is technically ready to get through the winter without the transit of gas through its territory, which is scheduled to stop entirely on December 31, said head of Naftogaz Oleksiy Chernyshov. Naftogaz has developed various scenarios for surviving the winter, including the termination of transit and gas distribution throughout the country. Chernyshov added that in October, Ukraine produced 53 million cubic meters of gas daily.

Also, Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko announced that by the end of the year more than 1 GW of gas-generating capacity will be delivered to Ukraine. This process is actively underway both on the part of state-owned companies and in the business community.

Moreover, DTEK top manager Dmytro Sakharuk said that by the end of the year the company plans to invest ₴4B in TPP restoration, about ₴5B in power grid repairs and modernization, as well as ₴12B in coal mining.

In its turn, Energoatom has already prepared all nine power units under Ukrainian control for winter operations.
