The majority leader in the US Senate, Democrat Chuck Schumer, scheduled the first procedural vote for the legislation proposed by Joe Biden on the allocation of $106B for Ukraine and Israel. At the same time, Republicans say that they will vote against the consideration of this bill if it does not include important provisions for strengthening border control in the southern United States.
In this regard, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressed US senators at a secret briefing on December 5. He briefed senators on the state of the war in Ukraine and the need for further military aid a day before the Senate votes on a foreign aid package that includes more than $61B for Kyiv.
The US State Department also called on Congress to decide on funding for Ukraine in the new budget as soon as possible, noting that more than 97% of the current funding has already been exhausted.
