In January 2023, Ukrainian banks issued 357 mortgage loans for UAH 449.5M, half as much as in January 2022 in terms of the number of loans and by 25% in terms of volume, the National Bank reported. Mortgages were issued by four banks that lent within the framework of the state programs Affordable Mortgage and eOselya exclusively on the secondary real estate market. The average effective mortgage rate in January was 7.5%, down from 8.3% in December 2022. Regionally, more mortgage loans were issued in January in Kyiv and the Kyiv, Volyn, Rivne, and Lviv regions. The largest volume of loans was originated in Kyiv and the Kyiv region – 83 contracts for UAH 114.7M, or 26% of the total volume.
