According to the UN, at least 184 civilians were killed and 856 injured in Ukraine during August as a result of Russian aggression, making this month the second deadliest month for civilians in 2024, after July.
The vast majority of civilian casualties (91%) and damage to educational and medical facilities (95%) that took place in August, as before, occurred in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government – that is, in the territory that the Russian army is attacking.
Of the 184 dead, 10 people lived in Russian-occupied territories, and 84 of the 856 wounded. Almost all of August’s war victims died from rocket, bomb, and artillery strikes, and two people were killed by mines.
According to UN estimates, since February 24, 2022 when Russia started its full-scale war against Ukraine, 11,743 people have been killed, and 24,614 Ukrainian civilians have been injured as a result of hostilities.
