In 2021, Ukraine spent three times more on roads than it had planned.

The total state budget expenditures for road construction in 2021 amounted to UAH 132B ($4.7B), almost three times more than planned at the beginning of the year, announced the Economic Strategy Center.  Together with local budget expenditures, the total sum was UAH 178B ($6.36B), 40% more than Ukraine’s expenses for defense (UAH 128B). In addition, experts have calculated that the state budget revenues were 18% higher last year than planned in January (expenses increased by 13%), which allowed allocating additional budget income for road construction.
