The National Bank of Ukraine reported that in December 2021 they issued 1,113 mortgage loans totaling UAH 990M ($35.4M). In 2021, banks issued 10,800 mortgage loans totaling UAH 8.9B ($317M). Almost 90% of the new agreements (UAH 7.5B) in 2021 were extended by five banks. Banks primarily lend for housing purchases in the secondary real estate market: the share of mortgages in this segment was about 90% of all new mortgages in 2021. Compared to 2020, new mortgage lending last year almost doubled in the number of contracts and increased 2.4 times in monetary terms, reported the NBU.
