Hungary again blocked the approval of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, which provided for the gradual introduction of an oil embargo on petroleum products. After the meeting of EU ambassadors, there were no agreements on sanctions against Russia. The sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation provides a gradual introduction of an embargo on oil and oil products from the Russian Federation. The abandonment of Russian oil could be a particular challenge for Hungary, Slovakia, and Bulgaria, which buy the resource mainly from Russia. Hungary announced that it intends to block these sanctions. Budapest’s decision has not even resulted in a concession to Hungary and Slovakia. For them, it has been proposed to postpone the implementation of these sanctions for 1.5 years.
