How many stores did Ukraine’s largest grocery retailers open last year?

The undisputed leader in Ukrainian grocery retail, the ATB chain, already had 1,257 stores by the end of 2024. Last year, the retailer opened 47 new outlets and renovated 11 more locations.

In turn, Fozzy Group launched 84 stores simultaneously but closed 32. After the moves, the company’s chains (Silpo and Fora, among others), their total number of stores climbed to 826, which is 100 stores more than before the war.

In third place is Clever Stores, which opened 87 retail locations, bringing its total to 315 stores.

VolWest Group, which develops the Nash Kray and SPAR chains under a franchise model and is the largest retailer of this kind, saw an increase of 28 stores, bringing its total to 276 retail outlets as of December 2024.

The top five also includes the Myasomarket chain, which is developed by the MHP agro-holding. The company opened 32 stores last year, resulting in 273 total outlets.

About 36.8% of new stores opened in western Ukraine, 24% in the capital and Kyiv region, 22% in the central regions, 7.6% in the northern region, 7.9% in the southern region, and 1.7% in the eastern part of the country.
