Goodbye energy exports: The Russian Federation launches a massive attack on Ukraine's energy system, using 127 missiles and 109 drones.

Clarifying information about the shelling on August 26, President Zelenskyy said that Russia attacked 15 regions of Ukraine, causing severe damage and civilian deaths. The Minister of Energy stated that as a result of the massive shelling, a wave of emergency power outages swept through Ukraine, connected both with preventive measures to maintain the power system’s balance and with damage to power equipment in many regions.

A preliminary analysis of the missile-drone attack and the number of weapons indicates that it was one of the largest attacks since 2022. One of the power facilities that came under attack was the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Station near Vyshhorod. The Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security Council stressed that there is no danger to the Kyiv HPP dam. The HPP’s capacity is 440 MW and enables the station to cover peak loads in the power system.

Ukraine’s Air Defense Forces shot down 102 missiles out of the 127 launched and 99 drones out of 109. Last week, Ukraine announced it would renew energy exports following lengthy repairs to its energy infrastructure, which will not be completed anytime soon.
