According to a FAO publication, world food prices fell again in August after hitting a record high in March 2022 but remain 7.9% higher than a year earlier. In August, the FAO Food Price Index was 138 points, 2.7 points (1.9%) lower than in July. Thus, a decrease was recorded for the fifth month in a row. However, the index, which tracks monthly changes in global food prices, remained 7.9% higher than in August 2021. All five FAO sub-indices decreased moderately in August. The grain price index in August was 145.2 points (-1.4% against July). The price index for vegetable oils amounted to 163.3 points in August (-3.3%). The August price index for dairy products amounted to 143.5 points (-2%). The meat price index was 122.7 points in August (-1.5%). The sugar price index was 110.4 points in August (-2.1%).
