Germany plans to resume work on the MidCat gas pipeline from Spain to Central Europe.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to resume construction of the MidCat gas pipeline project, connecting the Iberian Peninsula with central Europe, writes Bild. The project was abandoned three years ago, considered unprofitable with the rapid emergence of gas replacements including wind turbines and solar panels. However, Germany wants to review this decision due to the rising energy crisis in the EU. MidCat requires the construction of a 226-kilometer stretch from Ostalrík in Catalonia across the Pyrenees to Barbera in France, which would take at least two years. Spain favors the EU financing construction.
