Food products will become more expensive in Ukraine due to the electricity shortage.

Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denis Marchuk stated: “Blackouts are returning, and producers will use generators, which significantly increases production costs. The energy produced by generators costs up to ₴30 per kW, so an increase in product prices is inevitable.” He noted that war, inflation, shortage of personnel, and an increase in fuel excises affect product price increases. Marchuk also added that the harvest this year will be much smaller due to unfavorable weather conditions. The frosts at the beginning of spring and the drought, which continues and periodically worsens, have negatively affected the soybean and sunflower harvest. According to Agrarian Council estimates, the loss of corn export potential due to the heat during flowering may amount to 8-9 million tons, forcing a downward revision of the total export forecast for agricultural products from 60 million tons. At the same time, the expert is convinced that, although this will lead to a decrease in foreign exchange, it will not affect Ukraine’s food security.
