Five waste recycling clusters are planned to be opened in the west of Ukraine.

Five waste processing plants in Transcarpathia will attract €152M in investment and create 600 jobs.

The large-scale project foresees building waste factories in Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, Khust, Tyachiv-Rakhiv, and Berehove districts. The corresponding memorandum of cooperation was signed by the Minister of the Environment, Ruslan Strelets, and the head of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration, Viktor Mykyta.

As noted, earlier it would have been enough for the region to create capacity sufficient to process 300,000 tons of waste per year, now more than 500,000 tons of annual capacity is required. Total investment in the project is more than €152M. Negotiations with potential investors to develop a new regional refuse processing infrastructure are ongoing.

The start of plant design is planned for the end of June or the beginning of July. If the project goes according to schedule, the factories can be put into operation by the end of 2027. Similar projects have already been implemented in the Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, and Odesa regions.
