Europe has passed the US in terms of aid commitments to Ukraine.

This has happened for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war. According to a study by the Kiel Institute of World Economy (IfW), EU countries and institutions have committed to providing almost €52B in military, financial and humanitarian aid. The commitments made by the US amount to slightly less than €48B. The main reason for the change in status was the €18B macro-financial assistance package that the EU plans for 2023. However, Christophe Trebesch, director of the IfW Research Center, emphasized the importance of this aid arriving in Ukraine as soon as possible, without a months-long delay. According to the research, Germany has become the largest donor among European countries. Germany overtook Great Britain for the first time with a €12.6B total amount of promised support to Ukraine.
