According to Ukraine Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine needs one million rounds of ammunition as soon as possible to deter Russian forces and launch a counteroffensive. Ukraine urgently needs artillery ammunition in large quantities, and an EU draft proposal to use €1B to buy shells won’t suffice, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense said. “We need one million rounds, which would cost approximately four billion euros,” Reznikov told reporters before a meeting with his EU counterparts in Sweden. Reznikov said he supports a plan proposed by Estonia for EU countries to secure those rounds of ammunition jointly. Ukraine needs 90,000 to 100,000 artillery rounds per month, he said. During Wednesday’s meeting, the defense minister also said air defense systems, tanks, and ammunition are among the priorities he will discuss with the EU defense ministers.
