Ukraine without military support

In July, for the first time since the beginning of the war, the six largest EU countries did not offer Ukraine new commitments to provide military aid, writes Politico. This suggests that military aid to Ukraine may be reduced just as Kyiv is launching a decisive counteroffensive. The head of the group that monitors support for Ukraine, Christoph Trebesh, noted that a tendency toward decreasing EU support for Ukraine has been observed since the end of April. He drew attention to the fact that the EU post-pandemic recovery fund has provided approximately €800B through loans and grants. And the total of other European aid to Ukraine compared to this amount is tiny. According to Trebesh, the allied commitments to Ukrainian military assistance totals €1.5B, which they undertook last week in Copenhagen, are also “tiny compared to what was agreed upon at previous conferences.”
