EU countries are considering three steps to provide ammunition to Ukraine.

Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union

Defense ministers from the EU countries are considering a three-stage plan to provide Ukraine with ammunition and military equipment. The EU should also establish medium-term and long-term measures for the continuation of military support to Ukraine, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said. The first step is to provide ammunition quickly from available stocks. The second step is to decide on the specifics of jointly ordered ammunition and determine the range of countries that are ready to participate in such an order. This will provide for both the replenishment of the EU’s own stocks and production of a portion of the necessary ammunition for Ukraine in the medium term. The third, long-term step is to increase the EU defense industry’s capacity. According to Borrell, the cost of immediate munition supplies from European arsenals will be €1B, while the medium-term assistance and joint ordering program could cost up to €4B.
