The State Inspection of Nuclear Regulation instructed Energoatom to urgently analyze the safety risks of operating the the Zaporizhzhya NPP’s power units in the event of a drop in the Kakhov reservoir’s level, Energoreforma writes. It is noted that this document is necessary for the inspection and to make decisions regarding the ZNPP’s operation in connection with information about the mining of the Kakhovka HPP and the threat of a possible dam destruction. The destruction of the dam may lead to a drop in the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir, causing further irreversible consequences. Moreover, cooling water for the Zaporizhzhya NPP is now supplied from the reservoir.
