According to the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom, the team is actively looking for sites to construct the NPP. The most promising of them is Chigyrinskyi, near the town of Orbita in Cherkasy Oblast.
There are plans to build four new power units using Westinghouse AP1000 technology. Recently, Chigyryna City Council deputies granted permission to develop a land management project that will allocate land plots for permanent use by Energoatom with a total area of 38.1 hectares. Orbita is a satellite town of the unfinished Chhyryn NPP with a population of less than 200 people.
The power plant construction project was started in the mid-80s but was stopped in 1989. “The successful implementation of these plans is a significant investment in post-war reconstruction and support of the country’s energy security,” said Petro Kotin, the company’s top manager.
