Ukraine has made another wrong turn in relationships with RES producers. A few weeks ago, there was good chance for Green Energy producers to receive the payments for produced and distributed energy. However, the government decided not to pay the debts to renewable energy producers. Instead, the government of Ukraine wants to give all the funds to state-owned Energoatom, which has higher tariffs. When will the Ukrainian Government and those who serve it understand that you cannot sign agreements, and then chose to not honor them? In the early days of Ukraine’s independence, the practice of ripping off international investors was common and the slash and burn approach was no surprise to anyone in the business world. Yet here we are in 2021 and not 1996, and the same principles are still being applied. Instead of treating RES producers like a pesky child who will go away if ignored, they need to be shown the respect and agreements honored. Otherwise, there is no point in continuing the ongoing investor forums and other talk fests to attract investors when you do not honor the agreements that you have with the current ones. It’s capitalism stupid! Best Regards, UBN Editorial Board.
