The American and Ukrainian leaders met in Paris, where they both came to mark the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Allied D-Day landings in Normandy. US President Joe Biden announced a new defense package and apologized for the months-long delay in delivering US military aid, which allowed Russia to gain some advantages on the battlefield.
At the same time, the American president emphasized that his administration will support Ukraine in the long term: “We’re still in, completely, totally.”
As the Pentagon clarified, the new package will provide Ukraine with additional resources that will meet its most urgent needs on the battlefield. The package includes missiles for HAWK air defense systems, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, HIMARS ammunition, 155 mm howitzers, 155 mm and 105 mm artillery ammunition, 81 mm mortar mines, M113 armored personnel carriers, coastal and river patrol boats, and TOW, Javelin, and AT-4 anti-tank complexes.
