The stockpile of weapons and other military equipment in the Pentagon is decreasing, and because of this, the volumes of military aid packages to Ukraine have become smaller in recent months. American arms manufacturers are struggling to keep up with the huge demand created by the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, the US fears that America’s military readiness may suffer as a result of its support for Kyiv.
In April, the Pentagon announced a $1B package, but since then none of the packages has exceeded $400M, and some have even been as small as $125M and $250M. In 2022 and 2023, the military aid packages were between $600-$800M each. The largest package was announced in January 2023 – $2.85B. Now the US is trying to announce new packages every two weeks and ramp up production.
Before the full-scale war, the US produced 15,000 155mm artillery shells per month, and now produces 40,000, but it will take more than a year for the Pentagon to reach its goal of 100,000 shells produced monthly.
