Due to new EU restrictions and increased control over transporters, Ukrainian farmers should look for alternative sales markets.

Ukraine hopes to resolve the situation with the EU grain embargo, and the US promises to help with grain export.

Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi said that, starting in June, the EU will introduce restrictions on importing certain types of Ukrainian agricultural products if their supply exceeds the quota. Therefore, Ukrainian exporters must look for alternative sales markets because the quotas are smaller than Ukraine’s capabilities.

“If quotas are reached, then the EU has the right within 14 days to limit the import of these products until the end of the year,” he explained.

The proposed mechanism is unprecedented, so only time will tell whether it will be put into practice.

In addition, due to the Polish protests, the EC is allegedly discussing changes to the transport visa-free agreement, namely the possibility of installing GPS trackers in Ukrainian trucks to control where drivers are moving the goods in Poland and whether this movement corresponds with its declared destination. However, the EC is not currently planning to restore the licensing regime for freight carriers from Ukraine.
