Disaster at the Kakhovka HPP: which countries are helping Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden said that the US will help Ukraine in connection with the Russian occupiers’ destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said the US is in close cooperation with Ukrainian authorities to assist people who have been affected.
The EU plans to mobilize support for Ukraine through the civil protection mechanism. Germany, Austria, and Lithuania made the first contributions. Germany offered 5,000 water filters and 56 generators, and Austria will hand over 20 water tanks and 10 drilling pumps, which are already on their way to Ukraine. Lithuania and Germany also offered tents, beds, and blankets. Poland will hand over to Ukraine 10 pumps and 10 tanks for pumping water from the flooded territories of the Kherson Region. Finland will provide emergency assistance and participate in various environmental impact assessments.
Ukraine’s international partners have already provided over $170M, but Ukraine needs another $310M in aid to overcome the disastrous consequences of the disaster.
