With attention focused on Ukraine’s potential counteroffensive, top general Valeriy Zaluzhnyi on Saturday posted a video on social media proclaiming that “The time has come to reclaim what is ours”.

The bid to retake Russian-occupied territory is “ready to begin” and could start “tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or in a week”, Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, told the BBC.

Despite its language, Zaluzhnyi’s post made no explicit mention of an impending military operation, and there have been few details reported of specific build-ups of troops and weapons on the ground – though it should be noted that any such reporting would likely fall foul of Ukraine’s martial law restrictions.
