said the founder of the Investohills group of companies, Andriy Volkov. According to Volkov, banks will have to discount NPLs in order to sell 50-70% of them along with the rest of their portfolios, but only after further price reduction. As well, there is a high probability of a significant portion of problem loans being written off.
At the same time, he noted that the government and the NBU are still debating whether to sell problematic assets during the war or wait for it to end and try to sell them at a higher price.
According to the NBU, as of March 1, 2023, PrivatBank, Oschadbank, Ukrgasbank, and Ukreximbank are holding about UAH 324B of non-performing loans. This is about 75% of the entire “problem” in the banking system.
There are also many problematic loans in the corporate segment. The share of NPLs among businesses in February 2023 exceeded 43.3%, which is about UAH 364B.
