Borrell promises the EU’s support for Ukraine regardless of US policy.
The EU will continue to support Ukraine, which resists Russian aggression, and this position will not depend on what the new US administration will do, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said in New York at the end of the UN Security Council meeting. In this way, he commented on the possible election of Donald Trump as the new US president.
“I don’t know what the American administration will or will not do. At this time, the support from the European Union – military, civil, economic, financial, and humanitarian – is greater than the aid from the US. More than €100B is the bill we have paid, including €45B in military support. This amount is less than the US military aid, but it is also quite an important figure,” Borrell said.
He recalled that at the beginning of the war, no one expected that Ukraine would resist.
“And as long as Ukraine resists, we must support it. Otherwise, we will make a historic mistake,” the high-ranking EU representative emphasized.
