US President Joe Biden called on Congress not to make the issue of military aid to Ukraine and Israel, which is important for US national security, a subject of political bargaining. According to the US President, this will lead everyone to a dead end.
“Requiring compensation to meet basic US national security needs, such as supporting Israel and protecting Ukraine from atrocities and Russian imperialism, would be a break with the normal bipartisan process and could have devastating consequences for our security and alliances for years to come,” says a statement from the White House.
According to The Hill, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker-elect Mike Johnson are headed for a battle over funding for Ukraine and the US government after Thanksgiving. McConnell believes that military aid to Ukraine and Israel were connected because these conflicts are part of a larger global threat. At the same time, Johnson wants to split aid to Kyiv and Jerusalem.
