Berlin criticizes the concept of “leadership over the regions” during Ukraine’s reconstruction.

Germany wants to increase spending on military aid to Ukraine fivefold.

According to Jochen Flasbarth, the Commissioner of the Federal Government of Germany for rebuilding Ukraine, Germany considers such an approach ineffective, so the country’s government has refused to focus on helping only certain areas or individual sectors of the economy.

Thus, Berlin abandons the concept promoted by Ukrainian authorities and with which Ukraine’s other partners have agreed. In particular, Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Frank-Walter Steinmeier agreed on German patronage over the Chernihiv region last fall.

Flasbart clarified that Germany considers a flexible response to Ukraine’s requests more effective.
