Defense chiefs gathered in Singapore for Asia’s largest security forum, the Shangri-La Dialogue, to discuss critical threats amid rising tensions between the US and China. The war in Ukraine was also on the agenda and the main topic of discussion, reports Bloomberg.
The Minister of Defense of Indonesia proposed a “peaceful solution” to stop Russia’s war against Ukraine, which would allow Russian troops stay on Ukrainian territory. In response, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, rejected this proposal, stating that it sounded like a Russian proposal.
In closing one of the final panels on Saturday, Reznikov remarked sharply about China’s influence on Russia. He said he believed there had been a new understanding between the two countries since President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow earlier this year, with Beijing becoming an “older brother” to Moscow. “Could you please tell your younger brother to stop killing Ukrainians,” Reznikov said in closing remarks.
