Another stage of land market reform in Ukraine will start in a month: the government provides its price forecast.

The American Oakland Institute criticizes the land reform in Ukraine.

Beginning January 1, 2024, legal entities, i.e., holdings that currently rent land, will be able to buy agricultural land. However, the Minister of Agrarian Policy, Mykola Solsky, believes that the price of land will not rise immediately. He is sure that nothing will change in the land market after legal entities can buy agricultural land.

According to the reform, legal entities will have certain limits when purchasing land: a legal entity cannot acquire more than 10,000 hectares and must be a company whose beneficiaries are exclusively Ukrainian. Postponing the entrance of big players into the market was a measure of compromise, and allowing foreigners to enter it became possible only after a national referendum.

Solsky is also convinced that it is not worth postponing further steps within the framework of the land reform “for later”, on the contrary – the reform should be strengthened.
