Analysts observe record losses for the Russian Federation in terms of manpower and equipment in Ukraine.

As noted by the ISW, Russian forces have lost at least five armored divisions since the start of the offensive operation to capture Avdiivka in October 2023, as well as during intensified offensive operations in the west of the Donetsk region this summer. Previously, the Russian army was thought to have lost 1,830 units of heavy equipment in the Pokrovsk district since October 9, 2023, but the actual losses are higher. Experts summarized that enduring such losses for the sake of particular tactical successes cannot continue indefinitely without fundamental changes in Russia’s ability to provide resources for waging its war.

As for manpower losses, according to British intelligence, in September 2024 the Russian army’s average daily losses in killed and wounded soldiers reached their highest level in the entire war. The rate in September was 1,271 persons per day, while the previous record was recorded in May – 1,262 persons.

In total, since the beginning of the war the Russian Federation has lost more than 648,000 soldiers and equipment worth $72.6B.
