A second biomethane plant in Ukraine will be connected to the network in 2023.

In the first half of 2023, the Regional Gas Company will connect a second biomethane plant with a capacity of 18 million cubic meters of biomethane per year to gas distribution networks in the Vinnytsia region, the company reported. The Yuzef-Mykolaiv Biogas Company’s capacity will be so large that several phases of gas network construction with a length of more than 20 km had to be designed for the connection. According to Oleh Djurik, director of Yuzefo-Mykolaiv Biogas Company, the transition from using biogas for electricity generation to biomethane production is an attractive step from the point of view of investment. The new plant will supply the entire district with biomethane during the year, replacing natural gas. Lately, most factories in Ukraine have used biogas to produce electricity and thermal energy for their own needs. When burning natural gas, about 50% of its energy value is lost, while using biomethane, similar losses amount to about 7-10%.
