Several influential politicians from the Social Democratic Party of Germany, which is part of the ruling coalition, called on the German government to provide long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, the DW reported.
“The counteroffensive is slipping, Ukraine does not have a significant air force to support it. Therefore, only guided weapons remain – for example, Taurus cruise missiles, with the help of which the Ukrainian army can overcome the minefields installed by the Russians and win back its territory,” said Andreas Schwartz in an interview with Der Spiegel.
According to him, this is similar to the situation with tanks: “we are now refusing to supply important equipment, which in the end will probably be supplied anyway.”
During an interview with Tagesspiegel, foreign policy speaker Nils Schmid did not rule out that Germany, in alliance with the Americans, will supply Ukraine with other additional systems – for example, Taurus missiles.
